Vilas Park May 27th

It was a lovely evening and I was so happy to see a good size turnout and at least one new DCPAPA painter.   This watercolor was painted on 140 lb Arches cold press.

  1. Especially as a computer image the green light in this painting is really luminous. Great spring painting.

  2. Thanks, Tom! The trick to making watercolors look luminous is not using more than one layer as much as possible and getting the darks really dark enough. Much easier said than done! I also used paint that was really transparent; some pigments are more opaque than others. And the computer screen has so much light that it makes it look more luminous than on paper.

  3. I'm so glad you are back to painting outdoors! It's a great painting - that luminosity is definitely in the piece! I left the outing wanting to do more with watercolor outdoors. Cory and I had a great time painting with you, and she says HI!
