Arboretum Outing

When I returned home with my plein air piece I realized my flowers were all an intense orange with no modeling.  So, today, I scraped it off and repainted it with the help of a photo I had taken. This painting still has some problems, but at least I think the bush looks like a bush. But I still need to get Darya to teach me how to paint flowers.

  1. Nice one. One of the reasons I painted the prairie is because I find flowers really difficult. I'd sketched the azaleas a couple days earlier and they really were beautiful this year. I have never seen them look that good so like the crabapples they must have liked the long cold winter.

  2. Tom, I think you did a very good job! Yellows and oranges are tough, there's always a strong temptation to go for pure color, but yours are very natural and tender.

  3. I really like how you modified the flowers since I saw it last - they are much more three dimensional now.
